Bimini, Cockpit & Arch
Overview
Not many original pictures of this area as it wasn’t a big focus area. The wooden boards over the fuel tank were shot, and the through-hulls were largely all leaky. These were replaced & patched, and now the solar cabling routes through the cockpit area, so much less of a water ingress risk. Temporary tarp coverings used over the window areas to keep this area relatively dry, but a year of coping with winter storms has taken their toll. Potentially needs new coverings if this is intended for all-weather use, but works well for fair-weather sailing!
Bimini
Not in bad shape, but removing the previous solar panels stripped a bit of the ply. Sanded back and repainted before the new solar was installed. Solar cabling routed under the solar panels and sealed in, then routed into the interior through the cockpit area.
Fuel tank covering
This is the main area you stand on when at the helm, and needed to be fully replaced. Built 3 parts, wood core with fibreglass and resing sealing this and giving it structure. Painted and then added non-slip (paint and tape). Unfortanately makes the rest of the area look shabby, but gives an example of what the intended finish I was aiming for!
Solar Arch
No idea what / when / how this was damaged, but it’s very much bent. I’ve tried to rebend it, but it’s still not perfect. It was removed to repair the deck, and has now been refitted. It’s pretty strong and now hosts 2 new solar panels, but it’s definitely not straight!
Table
There is a spare larger table inside the boat, or a smaller one that’s here outside. The larger one would likely obstruct you sailing, so only used when not at sail. The smaller table likely needs a good sand and fresh varnish / paint as it’s been used as part of the outside workshop during the restoration.
Tools & Parts
This area currently houses various tools and spares, including a diesel heater (never formally installed - just for temporary winter comfort). Most tools you’d need to finish off the work, although some have been exposed to the elements.
